|Wearing this ring will allow the wearer to notice hidden secrets -- traps and secret doors -- without taking time to search. Cursed rings of awareness will dull your senses, making it harder to notice secrets even when actively searching for them.|
The rogue has a base awarenessBonus of 30 and gains a bonus of 20 per + on his worn rings of awareness.
awarenessBonus = 30 + 20 * ring bonus
By default you search with strength 80. However, if your rings of awareness are negative, you search with strength 40.
If you have a positive awareness bonus, you search with it after every turn, even if you searched on that turn.
Every time you search, you search in a radius of (searchStrength) / 10. This is a king's move radius. For each secret thing within this radius, you have a (searchStrength - distance*10)% chance to discover it, where distance is in king's moves as well.
Searching for things in walls (or other blocking terrain) is harder. You have 2/3 the normal chance to find them. This is for things like levers, not secret doors (those only look like they're in a wall).
|Distance of Secret / Ring Bonus||No ring||+1||+2||s||+3||+4|
|Chance of discovery before reaching||28%||69.8%||93.3%||99.3%||100%|
A +1 ring of awareness is pretty good. +4 rings of awareness give you all the passive searching you will ever need and there is not much point enchanting them higher. Due to its quick return on investment (as traps and secret doors cost lots of time and grief), a ring of awareness is a good choice to sink one or two enchantments into.
